Kathy Long, MA, LMHC

In a safe and accepting environment, clients are empowered to achieve their individual goals. I have been certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy ®, ScreamFree Parenting and Marriage Coaching and the EGALA model of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I also have received additional training in counseling military veterans. I use a variety of methods to create a unique counseling experience for each of my clients. I believe that for people to be emotionally healthy, it is important to address the whole person. Emotions, behaviors, thoughts, relationships, physiology, and faith combine to create the individual’s experience and are important for psychological healing. I work with my clients to equip them with the skills they need to develop their strengths and overcome difficulties.

As a Christian, I believe all the experiences I have had were designed to give me a unique perspective and understanding of the pain others may be going through. Although I am a Christian, I do not limit my practice to only those who believe as I do. I am willing to work with anyone who desires to overcome their personal struggles and is committed to doing the hard work counseling entails.

Attending the University of South Florida, I received my B.A. in Psychology and M.A. focusing on Mental Health Counseling. My clinical experience includes counseling individuals struggling with emotional disorders, abuse issues, addictions, co-dependency, and relationship problems. I have been involved in the majority of USF’s research studies on the effectiveness of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for people who have experienced trauma.

After seeing the benefit of Accelerated Resolution Therapy for hundreds of people through USF’s research and in my private practice, I became a trainer of the therapy. I have trained civilian and military psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, and other clinicians in the use of ART. I have been trained to teach all levels of ART- Basic, Advanced and Enhanced – and find great pleasure in educating wonderful clinicians in a therapy that brings change for clients and reduced stress for psychotherapists.
